Annual CO2: compare like periods

Note

measurements/mauna-loa-annual-co2.txt

# Annual CO2: compare like periods The plain-text table contains 67 annual records, 1959–2025. Its final published annual mean is 427.35 ppm for 2025; the 1959 mean is 315.98 ppm. These values were read directly from the downloaded file. Use annual means for comparisons between complete years. August 2026 in the monthly CSV is a single month and should not be presented as the 2026 annual mean. The text header explains uncertainty and attribution; keep it with the measurements. Source: [NOAA GML](https://gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/data.html). This annotation demonstrates that contextual knowledge can attach to plain-text research data.

Flower opening sample

Note

media/flower.mp4

Select this annotation to seek to 0.5–2.5 seconds, then press Play. Playback pauses at the segment end. This is a curated MDN media example, not research evidence or automatically transcribed speech. Source attribution is recorded in sources.json. Reuse: CC0 1.0 Universal. The local bytes match the corresponding asset in mdn/interactive-examples commit 13024db581b08fae11a0ca229497198b9b0534e7, which includes the CC0 LICENSE. Copying, modification and commercial redistribution are permitted under CC0. License text, immutable evidence URLs and hashes are included in REUSE.md, sources.json and licenses/CC0-1.0.txt. Attribution to MDN is retained voluntarily.

Observation islands: original CC0 demo illustration

Note

imagery/observation-islands.png

# Original generated illustration The 1254 x 1254 PNG observation-islands.png was generated using the built-in image-generation tool without reference images. It depicts invented islands, mountains, clouds and a generic satellite. No agency affiliation or observed geographical accuracy is implied. It replaces NASA Blue Marble so this demo's image, video and audio examples all have explicit CC0 terms. The image is dedicated under CC0 1.0 Universal to the extent copyright or related rights exist. It may be copied, modified and redistributed, including commercially. Full generation prompt, hash and provenance are retained in sources.json; the dedication and CC0 text accompany the folder. The video and audio remain byte-verified upstream CC0 samples. The MP3 is a sound effect, not spoken voice.

Observation islands: select the mountain region

Note

imagery/observation-islands.png

Select this annotation to highlight the central mountain in observation-islands.png. This is a curated spatial anchor on an original AI-generated illustration. The geography is fictional; it is not satellite imagery or scientific evidence. The illustration carries a CC0 dedication to the extent rights exist. Generation provenance, full prompt and checksum are in sources.json; terms are in REUSE.md.

Original observation brief: freely reusable PDF

Note

documents/earth-observation-demo.pdf

# Original observation brief The two-page `documents/earth-observation-demo.pdf` contains original sample text and vector artwork, dedicated under CC0 1.0 Universal. Copying, modification and redistribution, including commercial use, are permitted without attribution under CC0. The document demonstrates PDF viewing, extracted Markdown and exact-text selection. It contains no copied photos, logos, handbook illustrations or embedded font programs. Its statements are demonstration material, not operational guidance. The earlier USGS illustrated handbook has been removed from the demo because third-party reuse permissions were not established. See REUSE.md and sources.json for the current collection's per-file terms.

PDF demo: exact CC0 passage

Note

documents/earth-observation-demo.pdf

Select this annotation to highlight “Every observation needs a source and a date.” on page 1 of the original two-page Earth observation demo PDF. The same passage appears in extracted Markdown. Original text and vector artwork use CC0 1.0 Universal. This replaces the former USGS handbook annotation; that handbook is excluded because third-party illustration reuse was not established.

Roar sample excerpt

Note

media/t-rex-roar.mp3

Select this annotation to seek to 0.2–1.5 seconds, then press Play.

Demo decision: retain reproducible source snapshots

Decision

sources.json

# Demo decision: reproducible files with defined free-reuse terms Accept an asset only when an original CC0 dedication or identified upstream terms support its reuse. Public availability alone is insufficient. Record exact URLs, license evidence, credits, applicable conditions, dates, lengths and SHA-256 hashes in sources.json; distribute REUSE.md and notices with the files. The two MDN clips match pinned upstream CC0 Git blobs. The former USGS illustrated handbook is excluded because third-party illustration rights were not established; an original CC0 PDF replaces it. The NASA image is replaced by an original AI-generated illustration with an explicit CC0 dedication. NOAA and USGS data retain their agency reuse terms rather than receiving a blanket CC0 label. Seven source assets demonstrate different formats, places and periods; grouping them implies no causal link. Downloaded bytes are retained unchanged. Knowledge remains in Lumvise's database, and old handbook index entries are inactive.

Free-reuse terms and attribution for every demo asset

Decision

REUSE.md

# Asset admission rule Only retain assets with identified free-reuse terms. A public download URL is not permission. The user explicitly required this on 2026-09-22. The original two-page PDF, new generated illustration and MDN audio/video have CC0 1.0 terms. The generated illustration's dedication applies to the extent rights exist; it was produced without reference images. Both local MDN clips match the upstream Git blob hashes at commit 13024db581b08fae11a0ca229497198b9b0534e7, whose LICENSE is CC0. The license text is included in licenses/CC0-1.0.txt. The NASA image has been replaced for uniform visual/audio licensing. NOAA/Scripps data and the USGS event feed retain documented agency reuse terms, credits and conditions recorded in REUSE.md and sources.json; no blanket CC0 claim covers them. The USGS illustrated handbook has been removed from the source folder. Its former semantic entries are inactive, and the two PDF annotations now target the original CC0 replacement. Historic index records were not physically purged from the app database; no portable database export was produced. Do not distribute a historical database snapshot as a cleared asset package without excluding retired source content. Validation: all seven current assets pass SHA-256 and size checks and have explicit license/policy evidence and conditions. Both new PDF pages were visually inspected, license text and exact sample passage extracted, and the app indexed the replacement. Preserve README, REUSE.md, sources.json, CC0 text and original data headers when distributing the folder. Earthquake geography and snapshot freshness

Definition

geography/earthquakes-m2.5-week.geojson

# Earthquake geography and snapshot freshness The downloaded USGS FeatureCollection contains 348 events. Its `metadata.generated` timestamp is **2026-09-22 11:34:51 UTC**. This is the saved magnitude-2.5-and-above weekly feed, not a live feed after download. Each feature has a stable event `id`, event properties, and Point geometry. Coordinates are **longitude, latitude, depth in kilometres**, in that order. Event `time` and `updated` values use milliseconds since the Unix epoch. Missing properties may be null. Magnitude measures event size; it is distinct from observed shaking intensity. Do not interpret a feed flag as an operational warning without its documented meaning. Source: [USGS GeoJSON feed documentation](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/feed/v1.0/geojson.php). A review should check timestamp, spatial coverage and event status before interpreting the snapshot.

Reading the monthly CO2 measurements

Definition

measurements/mauna-loa-monthly-co2.csv

# Reading the monthly CO2 measurements Each row represents one month. The downloaded snapshot contains 822 rows from March 1958 to August 2026. | Column | Meaning | | --- | --- | | year / month | Calendar period | | decimal date | Fractional year | | average | Monthly CO2 concentration, parts per million | | deseasonalized | Concentration with the estimated seasonal cycle removed | | ndays | Number of contributing days | | sdev / unc | Spread and uncertainty fields supplied by the source | Skip comment lines beginning with `#` when parsing. Negative day-count, spread, and uncertainty entries are source flags, not negative physical measurements. The header identifies interpolated months and unavailable early Scripps metadata. Measurements temporarily used Maunakea during the Mauna Loa interruption beginning in late 2022; preserve that methodology note in analysis. Source: [NOAA GML data and methods](https://gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/data.html). Credit NOAA GML and Scripps. This is a curated definition based on the downloaded header.

Earth Observatory: knowledge overview

Report

README.md

# Earth Observatory: knowledge overview A curated demo project showing how Lumvise organizes a mixed-format research collection: documents, measurements, geographic records, imagery and media. Original files stay unchanged on disk; knowledge lives in Lumvise's database. Index last refreshed 2026-09-22. ## Collection at a glance - 11 files: 7 source assets (3,673,384 bytes) plus README.md, sources.json, REUSE.md and licenses/CC0-1.0.txt. - Formats covered: PDF, CSV, TXT, GeoJSON, PNG, MP4, MP3. - Provenance: per-file SHA-256 hashes, source URLs, credits and reuse terms recorded in sources.json; terms restated in REUSE.md. ## Knowledge map — 14 records ### Orientation - [Guided tour (specification)](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-guided-tour) — the intended reading path for the collection. - [Verified collection summary (report)](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-collection-report) — per-asset verification results for all seven sources. - [Example briefing task (task assignment)](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-review-task) — open demo task for an evidence-backed briefing. ### Definitions - [Reading the monthly CO2 measurements](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-co2-dictionary) — columns, units and source flags; 822 rows, March 1958 to August 2026. - [Earthquake geography and snapshot freshness](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-geojson-dictionary) — coordinate order, event ids, 348 events, snapshot generated 2026-09-22 11:34:51 UTC. ### Decisions - [Retain reproducible source snapshots](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-snapshot-decision) — admission rule and what was replaced. - [Free-reuse terms and attribution](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-reuse-policy) — licensing policy, validation results and distribution conditions. ### Annotations - [Original observation brief: freely reusable PDF](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-handbook-context) - [PDF demo: exact CC0 passage](lumvise://artifact/earth-demo-pdf-cover-passage) - [Observation islands: original CC0 demo illustration](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-image-provenance) - [Observation islands: select the mountain region](lumvise://artifact/earth-demo:blue-marble-region:annotation) - [Annual CO2: compare like periods](lumvise://artifact/earth-observatory-demo-annual-context) - [Roar sample excerpt](lumvise://artifact/earth-demo:roar-segment:annotation) - [Flower opening sample](lumvise://artifact/earth-demo:flower-segment:annotation) ## Decisions that shaped the collection 1. Assets are accepted only with identified free-reuse terms; public availability alone is not permission (recorded 2026-09-22). 2. Replacements: the USGS illustrated handbook was replaced by an original CC0 PDF, and the NASA Blue Marble image was replaced by an original AI-generated CC0 illustration. Their historic index records are inactive, not deleted. 3. NOAA/Scripps and USGS data keep their agency terms and credits; no blanket CC0 label is applied. ## Caveats - These records are curated demo examples; source preview and extraction capabilities depend on the app, and no universal automatic interpretation is claimed. - Inactive historic records remain in the database; do not distribute a historical database snapshot as a cleared asset package. - Knowledge stays in Lumvise's database; the folder holds originals and provenance only. *Overview compiled 2026-09-22 from 14 indexed knowledge records across six classes.*

Earth Observatory: verified collection summary

Report

README.md

# Earth Observatory: verified collection summary Seven assets cover PDF, CSV, plain text, GeoJSON, PNG, MP4 and MP3. Together they occupy 3,673,384 bytes. README, sources.json, REUSE.md and the CC0 license bring the folder to 11 files. - Original two-page CC0 PDF: both pages rendered and inspected; text extraction and exact sample passage verified. - NOAA CSV: 822 monthly rows, March 1958-August 2026. - NOAA text: 67 annual CO2 records, 1959-2025. - USGS GeoJSON: 348 unique event IDs, snapshot generated 2026-09-22 11:34:51 UTC. - Original AI-generated illustration: 1254 x 1254 PNG, CC0 dedication; fictional geography. - MDN video/audio: exact Git blob matches to the pinned CC0 repository. All seven active source assets have matching SHA-256 hashes, explicit reuse terms, evidence and conditions in sources.json. The original USGS handbook and NASA image are excluded; their indexed records are inactive. Knowledge annotations now target the replacement CC0 PDF. Government assets retain their agency terms and attribution; they are not relabeled CC0.

Earth Observatory: guided tour

Specification

README.md

# Earth Observatory: guided tour **Goal:** show how Lumvise can organize a research project made from documents, measurements, geographic records and imagery. 1. Open the monthly CSV and read **Reading the monthly CO2 measurements**. A file-level definition explains units and source flags. 2. Compare the annual text file and its annotation. The knowledge distinguishes monthly and annual evidence. 3. Explore the GeoJSON definition for location, event identity and snapshot freshness. 4. Open the original CC0 PDF and select its exact-text annotation. Open the image region for visual context. 5. Read the collection report, then follow its dependencies back to source knowledge. 6. Read REUSE.md and sources.json for explicit per-file reuse terms and credits. 7. Open the sample briefing task to see how work can depend on evidence and a recorded decision. **Success:** users can discover the collection, read source-specific knowledge, and follow dependency links across formats. **Boundary:** these knowledge records are curated examples. Source preview/extraction capabilities depend on the app; this project does not claim universal automatic interpretation. **Storage:** the project folder contains original files and provenance. Knowledge remains in Lumvise's database.

Example task: prepare an evidence-backed Earth briefing

Task

README.md

# Example task: prepare an evidence-backed Earth briefing **Status:** open demo task. **Owner:** unassigned research editor. This is sample project content, not an assignment to a real person. Prepare a short briefing that introduces the collection and follows its knowledge links to the sources. - [ ] Explain the seven source formats and their different roles. - [ ] Describe CO2 using one consistent reporting period and the correct units. - [ ] Label the earthquake feed with its saved generation timestamp. - [ ] Identify the PDF as original CC0 demo material and identify the image as an original AI-generated illustration with fictional geography. - [ ] Cite original sources, preserve credits, and include REUSE.md, sources.json and the CC0 license with copies. **Acceptance:** every factual claim points to a source or a checked knowledge artifact; no causal conclusion is inferred merely from grouping these files.
